Mastectomy Advice
Many doctors will recommend that you come to Rigby & Peller after surgery to
be expertly fitted for your new underwear. Our fitters have been professionally
and specifically trained to fit our mastectomy customers.
When you are purchasing a new mastectomy bra, it is essential that you try it on
with your prosthesis and that you buy bras that fit your good side and then fit
the prosthesis to match.
It is most important that you feel comfortable and confident as you move around.
Your bra should not move around ensuring that your prosthesis remains in place.
Also, remember that it is incredibly important that you like the bras that you
purchase.
We recommend that when you make your first mastectomy bra purchase you give
yourself at least two bras to start with. You need to have a bra for everyday
use and one for evening wear. You can always build up your lingerie wardrobe in
time; we recommend to all our customers that they have at least seven bras.
We do not recommend buying a bra with pockets as the prosthesis falls away from
the chest wall as you bend forward.
