Enhancing Smaller Breasts

Enhancing Smaller Breasts

In this guide, Rigby & Peller offer a few tips on how to make the most of your bust.

A Well-Fitting, Comfortable Bra

Regardless of the size of your bust, you need a comfortable bra. We always suggest that you have your bra fitted by professionals. At Rigby & Peller, we offer free fittings in each of our five stores and our trained staff will be able to advise you in great detail about the best bra for your body and shape. But if it's impossible for you to get to us, here are a few tips and pointers you might like to consider.

The Occasion

Consider the occasion - if there is one - which has prompted the need for new lingerie. The type of occasion or event often dictates the dress code, which will in turn dictate the degree to which you can enhance you bust appropriately.

Dress to Impress - What to Wear

Generally speaking, it's the clothes you choose to wear which will have the biggest impact on your figure. Here are a few ideas for giving the effect of a larger cup size…

  • This summer, and probably through to autumn too, backless dresses are going to be popular. This is great news for smaller-busted women, since backless dresses are sexy and feminine regardless of breast size.
  • Ruffles and frills draw positive attention to your chest; and with subtle use of them you'll make your upper body appear fuller.
  • Experiment with pretty tops. Spaghetti straps place emphasis on your shoulders, which will accentuate your chest.
  • Waist-length coats and jackets lend fullness to your torso.
  • Wear tops which are lighter than your trousers or skirts.
  • Go for tops which are designed with horizontal lines. Horizontal lines draw the eye from left to right, an effect which enhances the shape of the wearer's chest.
  • Pick up some T-shirts with a-symmetrical necklines. Sleeveless T-shirts draw the eye more to your slender arms, which is useful for smaller-chested women.
  • A tailored or fitted blouse with a narrow V-neck is a great way to emphasise your bust. Breast pockets and wide lapels will add volume to your breasts.
  • Wear tightly fitting tops which hug your frame.

Bras

The bra you choose to wear will have the most immediate impact on the size and shape of your chest. As we mentioned at the start, your bra must be the right size, fit comfortably, and perform the job you need it to. Getting yourself properly fitted, and listening to the advice of your fitter, is without question the best and quickest way to make the most of your breasts. If however you don't have the time to get professionally fitted, try a few of these techniques.

  • Get fitted for a push-up or a padded bra. Padded bras give your breasts some extra volume, while push-up bras lift the bust from below, giving the appearance of fullness.
  • Try using inserts. Affectionately known as 'chicken fillets', foam, air, gel, or silicone inserts are placed inside your bra. They have the same visual effect as padded bras, but have the advantage that they are removable and can be inserted into any moulded cup bra.
  • Simply wearing your bra properly will have a big impact on the aesthetics of your chest. You can appear to boost your bust a full cup size just by wearing the correct size and style for you.

As a footnote, if you're shopping and trying new bras without expert help, remember to put your top on over the bra you're trying on. You need to make sure the bra looks natural and feels comfortable under everyday clothes.

Accentuating Cleavage

There are a couple of little tricks to accentuating your cleavage. If you use them well, you can create the impression of a fuller bust. The brand Aubade always offer an excellent padded push up style in their collections which is available from an A cup. For those ladies with a petite frame as well, the Aubade Bahia range is available from a 30 back. Always remember to pull yourself right into the centre of your bra to maximize your cleavage. Hold the wire of the bra with one hand at the side and with the other hand scoop the breast into the cup. Once you have achieved your desired look, team your padded plunge bra with a V-neck top to draw the eye inwards.

Jewelry & Accessories to Emphasise

A short necklace is a great, stylish way to balance the aesthetics of your upper body. An elegant necklace sitting level with the breastbone draws attention to the top of your chest rather than the centre. Worn with a light coloured halter-neck top to give your shoulders width, a choker or a short, chunky necklace can make all the difference.

And Finally…

Remember, at the risk of sounding a little patronising, the size of your breasts is not something you should worry all that much about. A small bust allows you flexibility with your wardrobe, giving you the option to increase your cup size with padding and silicon enhancers, or go braless in your backless, strapless, plunge evening dress.
