VPL Free - How to Choose Underwear for Difficult Fabrics

The beautiful, elegant line of a gorgeous outfit can be devastated almost instantly by the callous disregard of the visible panty line. It's good news then that VPL has been more or less eradicated from knowledgeable society. But somehow, when there's an important occasion round the corner which dictates the donning of some suitably fabulous attire, we all get complacent and VPL makes a resurgence. So how can you deal with VPL if your outfit of choice is made from a difficult - but gorgeous - material? This guide is designed to provide a little information about how to choose underwear for difficult fabrics.

The simplest answer, unfortunately, is to wear no underwear at all. But if that's not a realistic option - and for most rational people, it's not - then the issue of underwear choice is one which needs confronting head on. There are ways to make your underwear invisible, and most of them depend on the kind of fabric you'll be wearing.

Invisible Bras

With backless dresses and strapless tops set to be de rigueur this summer season, it's all the more reasonable that you might be looking for invisible underwear.

The best option would always be a seamfree strapless bra. Our best seller for sizes up to a DD is the Marie Jo Avero strapless bra. With smooth line cups and an elegant check design this bra comes complete with a dainty daisy strap giving you the option of a halterneck or crossover bra as well as a traditional strapless.

For larger cup sizes the Fantasie Smoothing bra is a summer must have. With seamfree cups and available in invisible Nude colour, this bra offers excellent support and shape under clothes for up to a G cup.

For those with a smaller bust, Braza offer some great secret alternatives. Their Magicups adhere directly to the skin and eliminate the use of straps - in fact they eliminate any sense of conventional underwear at all. They're made of foam, cover the breast area with a smooth line and are designed to be invisible under clothing. Braza lead the field in discrete chest support. As well as the Magicups, they also offer a completely adhesive bra which consists of several fine pieces of sticky mesh paper that adheres to and supports the entire breast without the need for straps. Made up to a DD cup, the adhesive bra will hold the breasts in place and are an ideal option for strapless, low plunging dresses.

How to Choose

To gauge which underwear to wear you need to look at the fabric of the dress you'll be wearing. Then you need to find a balance between comfort and style, based on your confidence and the impression you wish to make with your outfit. For instance, if you've decided to wear a sheer dress, then your choice of underwear is obviously an important one. Sheer is semitransparent, so clever use of underwear is required. For maximum invisibility, a flesh coloured lingerie set is the best way to go. A bestselling range is the Prima Donna Satin collection in cognac, with a full range of styles from t-shirt bras, moulded and plunge styles, all shapes and sizes are covered. Many people have the preconception that a white bra is the most invisible under white tops, but a bra which matches the colour of your skin will give the illusion that you are not wearing a bra at all.

For the rest of us not adventurous enough to attempt a sheer outing, the smooth, well-fitted lines offered by invisible underwear are still desirable. We have many nude-style underwear products which offer the glamour you'd want with a gorgeous once-a-year dress and at the same time make you feel calm and contented. Lejaby for instance offer an entire range of invisible briefs. Simple yet stylish, this range includes four different underwear styles: high-rise shorts, low-rise shorts, mini g-strings and briefs. All of these underwear styles use soft, durable fabrics cut close to the skin so that they disappear immediately under your clothes. The mini g-string is particularly discreet, performing excellently under clingy, thin or close fitting outerwear and disguising itself under all fabrics.

Colours & Styles

The colour of your outerwear will have an impact on your underwear too. White cotton trousers or skirts should be complemented with skin coloured underwear. Dark clothing usually prescribes dark underwear. Tight trousers or a tailored skirt might demand a g-string to avoid the appearance of VPL. However, even strings have a giveaway line running up over the hip which might be seen under thin fabrics. Even this might be enough to ruin the smooth line of an outfit, so a seamfree style with a slightly wider side or a g-string with stretch lace sides would be good to try as it will glide over the hips without digging in.

If not, girl boxers or boy shorts can help to eliminate tell-tell underwear lines and are usually more comfortable than g-strings. For those with a fuller figure, something like a long leg brief with light control will give an invisible line and a little support where it's needed. The Spanx Power Panties are available in black and nude and offer hidden support to the thigh.

To Sum Up…

When considering which underwear to wear with awkward or difficult fabrics, consider the style, material and colour of the dress or outerwear you're going for. Then choose your underwear based on how comfortable you wish to be… or how outrageous. Match the tones of your outerwear and underwear, light for light and dark for dark, and be prepared to spend some money for underwear if you want it to simply melt away under your clothing, leaving no trace.
