Five FAQs answered: care guide for lingerie
Lingerie: We all wear it every day. Yet hundreds of women turn to Google with the same question: How do I wash my lingerie? Washing your bras and briefs the right way has several advantages: · It prevents lingerie from becoming damaged · It makes high-quality lingerie last longer · It helps maintain the shape and elasticity of bras and briefs
Beautiful lingerie deserves the right care and attention. That’s why our lingerie stylists created an overview of the five most frequently asked questions – and answers!
Question 1 – Hand-wash or machine-wash?
There’s no doubt about it: the best way to wash your lingerie is by hand. Bras in particular love a hand-wash, as it helps them keep their shape and their elasticity. We get it: You've got a busy agenda and sometimes there's just no time to hand-wash your lingerie. That's why most women throw their bras in the washing machine instead. There's nothing wrong with this, as long as you follow the washing instructions.
Question 2 – To sort or not to sort?
Another easy question to answer: Always sort your lingerie by color. Try to wash similar colors together. If this really isn’t an option, avoiding mixing darks and lights. Why? Mixing colors could cause your clothing to stain or fade. Another smart sorting tip: Consider washing your lingerie with fabrics of similar weight. This helps prevent damage.
Question 3 – In a laundry bag?
Treat your gorgeous lingerie to a safe wash by putting all of your bras and briefs in a protective laundry bag. This prevents straps and delicate briefs from getting tangled up with other items. A laundry bag also protects your lingerie from rougher garments. The same applies to swimwear!
Question 4 – How hot?
Hot water reduces the elasticity of your lingerie. This is disastrous for the support and fit of your delicate bras and briefs. For this reason, never wash your lingerie above 30 °C. Other tips: · Select a gentle cycle · Select a maximum spin cycle of 600 rpm · Avoid the spin cycle
Question 5 – Lingerie and towels?
Washing your lingerie with towels isn't a great idea. Instead, try to wash with garments that are roughly the same weight (e.g. T-shirts, socks, or pajamas). This will prevent your lingerie from becoming damaged and help it last longer. Another tip: You don't have to wash your bras every day. Ideally, bras should be washed every three to six wears.
